A Conservative councillor in Wealden has made a public appeal to help horses who are literally in danger of dying from thirst during the current water crisis in East Sussex.
Cllr Michael Lunn represents Hadlow Down and Rotherfield. One of his residents operates stables, and her 20 thoroughbred horses need water, urgently, to survive.
In a radio interview this afternoon Michael explained that 2,500-litres of water are required at the farm in Hadlow Down.
The owner has said that both South-East Water and the fire brigade have refused to help. In desperation, she has been carrying buckets of water to the heard but she is now totally exhausted.
Already the water supply emergency has affected thousands of residents in East Sussex and Kent, with schools having to close and nursing homes struggling. South East Water has blamed extra demand due to the hot weather but lack of investment in their crippling infrastructure has been called into question.
