A Conservative councillor has co-ordinated distribution of water to animals in danger of dying of thirst during the East Sussex water crisis.
Cllr Michael Lunn, who represents Hadlow Down and Rotherfield on Wealden District Councillor, is himself a farmer. Following his media appeal for help to see animals in his area supplied with water, Alfriston Emergency Group came forward to assist.
Using an old fire engine together with a Blitz-style community spirit, they drove 40 minutes to delivery emergency water supplies to several farms where livestock were suffering from the lack of running water.
"The volunteers kindly offered to bring 3,500 litres of fresh water to support farmers in the affected area", explains Michael. "I rang round 20 local farms and identified those in the most desperate need.
"Renhurst Farm, with 40 adult Heifers lambs being bottle-fed and 40 pigs with no water were among those we managed to help along with another equestrian centre with 40 horses. Both had been promised water both let down time and time again."
